Selby & Friends tours with ‘A Matter of Heritage’, engrossing concerts shining a light on the remarkable influences of culture and heritage on composers from a wide swathe of backgrounds, time, and place. Artistic Director/pianist Kathryn Selby AM welcomes two very special guest artists, the marvellous English violinist Elizabeth Layton and dynamic next-generation cellist Benett Tsai.
The fascinating mix of chamber music ranges from “Passacaglia”, an arrangement by Norwegian composer Johan Halvorsen of Handel’s original Passacaille from Suite in G minor, HWV 432, to Australian Nigel Westlake’s iconic and stunningly beautiful Piano Trio. Then it’s on to France for the beloved Debussy Cello Sonata in D minor. Finally, Smetana’s genial Piano Trio in G minor concludes the program with its melodious intensity reflecting its Bohemian roots.
