Krøyer expressed his love of Skagen, the artists colony at the northernmost tip of Denmark, particularly during the ‘blue hour’ of northern Scandinavian summer nights when sea and sky appear to merge into a single luminous whole through his work. Dr McLauchlin explores one of Europe’s most celebrated 19th Century artist’s life and work in Skagen.
