Ann has shared with The SHAC a range of curated oil paintings from her own studio, showcasing the breadth of her skills as one of Australia’s premiere portrait artists. These works feature portraiture of both people and animals (including several from her previously exhibited ‘Parlour Games’ collection, created from visits to a well-known madam’s den), as well as landscapes capturing iconic Australian scenes, including Sydney Harbour Bridge and the unrelenting heat of the outback.
Cape’s standout portraits of Kevin Connor (twice winner of the Archibald Prize; a former trustee of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, and lecturer of painting and drawing at the National Art School) landed her the top prize in the 2010 Holding Redlich People’s Choice Award, an honour also held by Ben Quilty and Robert Hannaford.
Active as a painter, sculptor and teacher in the Australian art scene for over 40 years, Cape has taught at the Royal Art Society, NSW and has judged a number of art prizes. Ann is a Member of the Advisory Committee, Mosman Regional Gallery; a National Art School Alumni and a Fellow of the Royal Art Society.
This exhibition opens Friday September 25 – closes Monday October 19, 2020.
