From the elaborate grandeur of Vivaldi’s Baroque Magnificat, through what is surely the most operatic of versions of the Lord’s Prayer in Verdi’s Pater Noster, to the devotional simplicity of Dvorak’s setting of the Mass near the end of the 19th century, these three smaller sacred works were inspired by that great wellspring of the creative arts in Europe, Christian faith. In this concert Berrima Singers, teaming with guest soloists and instrumental ensemble Highlands Music Collective, reveals an oft-overlooked side to these composers, known more for their larger works, as we join them in their ‘excelsis’ quest to connect with The Divine.
