Celebration of Youth: Steel City Strings

Performing Arts Centre, Chevalier College, 11 Charlotte St, Burradoo NSW, Australia

Event Date: 20 Jun 2021, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Steel City Strings biennial youth program returns in 2021 showcasing some of the region’s most talented young musicians playing Frank Bridge’s Serenade for Strings and some of Bartok’s Romanian Dances.

Hana Lee, winner of the Concerto Competition of the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music will play a movement of the Mozart Violin Concerto in A Major and Tomas Phillips will play the 3rd movement from the much loved Mozart Clarinet Concerto with the orchestra.

Violinist Elliot Winn plays the 3rd movement of the Double Violin Concerto by Vivaldi with Artistic Director Kyle Little and vocalist Daisy Pring (featured artist in the last NSW School Spectacular) brings her contemporary style to the program with arrangements by composer John Spence.

This year the orchestra held a Composition Competition, and the winner was “Recovery” by 17-year-old Western Sydney composer Adriel Sukumar. His composition was inspired by recent natural disasters and the pandemic still raging across parts of the world.
