Rome has a rich history that spans 28 centuries. In a typical summer, many Romans move out as the tourists move in (10 million per annum).
In April 2016, David stayed in a Benedictine monastery in the centre of Rome – a place conducive for stillness, silence and simplicity. Each morning he would wake, prepare, leave to calmly walk in exploration – and search for visual stories.
After photographing, David would return to his room (in isolation from the world) and later share a silent meal with the monks. Each day passed with few words spoken.
David was captivated by Rome’s history, old-world street scenes, grand magnificence and her increasing cultural diversity. However, it was the colours of Rome that inspired the strongest influence for this exhibition.
Solo a Roma captures the quieter, unseen moments of Rome.
This exhibition opens online this Friday 26th June – closes Friday 21st August, 2020.
