Welcome to Turned Around Studio Japanese Textiles Workshop. Ruth, our guest tutor, is a highly proficient and qualified Textiles and Design teacher with over 40 years’ experience. She has studied Japanese language and culture and is passionate about upholding traditional Japanese textile techniques. During the workshop participants will learn the art of Shibori dyeing, a technique that results in rich patterns, and the Sashiko (meaning “little stabs”) embroidery, a form of Japanese folk work which has been used in Japan for centuries. Participants will have hands-on experience of dyeing a piece of silk to make into a scarf, using indigo, the Shibori method. Whilst the scarf dries, participants will then construct coasters with Sashiko embroidery. Morning tea provided. BYO lunch and own apron. Cost $190.
