Cat has always been fascinated by those who forge a new path for themselves outside of the cultural norms – the countercultures.
Ode to Poetry draws upon the work of David M James and portrays some of the Northern figures of the British Poetry Revival of the 1960’s and 70’s – a modernist experimental poetry movement.
This collection of ink and charcoal drawings celebrates the thriving poetry scene taking place in medieval venues and small back rooms across the North East of England which gave birth to a new movement.
Born in Northern England in 1972, Cat Doyle has been living in the Southern Highlands for the last 13 years.
Involved with the SHAC since the very beginning, Cat is surrounded by inspirational art and artists every day and it was almost inevitable that she would start to create art as well.
Learning through Life Drawing classes, workshops, books, experimentation, conversation and mentorship with fellow SHAC artists; Cat experimented with abstracts and still life, before moving back to her first love: portraiture; and fascination with the human face.
Strength, fragility, and imperfection are recurring themes throughout Cat’s work, as she explores the quieter states of inner feeling and seeks to draw out the common threads of experience that bind us together.
Cat works primarily in oils and inks; and currently works from her shared studio – Spud Lane Studios – at the SHAC in Robertson NSW.
Ode to Poetry is her first solo show.
The SHAC is open Friday to Monday each week or by appointment Tuesday to Thursday.
