Oratorio Elijah by Felix Mendelssohn

St Jude's Church, Bendooley Street, Bowral

Event Date: 26 Oct 2019, 6:30 pm

Felix Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” is the second most performed oratorio after Handel’s “Messiah”. This dramatic work chronicles the work of the Old Testament Prophet Elijah: his confrontation with King Ahab and the prophets of the god Baal following a three year drought; Queen Jezabel’s attempt to have him killed; Elijah’s vision of God in the desert; his return to prophetic ministry; and his being taken directly to heaven. This work was first performed in Birmingham UK and was described as “a complete triumph”. Audience members are invited to bring a score and join in the choruses. Admission by donation.
