SUE ALISON has spent more than 50 years in the pursuit of artistic challenges.
At a young age she displayed a natural gift in artistic and craft-based works encompassing painting, drawing, pottery, sculpture, fabric design and needlework.
Sue is a qualified nurse and midwife and worked in Victoria, New South Wales and overseas.
She is a teacher as well as practitioner and began a patchwork and applique workshop through the 1980s with several exhibitions of her own work and her students in Camden and the surrounding Macarthur area.
Moving to the South Coast in the early 90s she pursued her talents as a creative and successful cook and did not have much time for painting. In the early 00s Sue met her highly inspirational and influential teacher Barbara Hilder-Messum at Nowra TAFE college leading to exhibitions in the Lady Denman museum, Huskisson, Nowra and the Shoalhaven City Arts Centre.
She received commendations for her still life in the David Turnbull Bequest Prize in 2009 and the Alvaro Still life Prize in 2010, both in Bowral.
She has an abiding interest and passion for horticulture and garden design and when not painting spends much time in her greatly admired garden in the Jervis Bay hinterland.
Sue strives to find inspiration, beauty, strength and purpose in the everyday accoutrements and tasks of life; the quotidian.
