Sunday Sessions Jazz: ‘The Bowlo XIX’ – Unity Jazz Band

The fabulous Unity Jazz Band returns to the Bowral Bowling Club on Sunday the 13th of October, featuring Stan Valacos on bass, Andrew Scott on piano, Tim Geldens on drums, Dan Barnett on trombone/vocals and Al Davey on trumpet/vocals.

While our SH! Jazz audiences have enjoyed most of this line-up before, Tim Geldens is a new addition. Tim is a graduate of Australia’s most prestigious music university, The Sydney Conservatorium of Music. At university he was under the tuition of Australian drummers Andrew Dickeson and Simon Barker as well as renowned musicians Mike Nock, Dale Barlow, David Panichi, Judy Bailey and Steve Brien. Tim has also studied in New York with drumming greats such as Kendrick Scott, Michael Carvin, John Riley, Rodney Green and Bob Moses. He has already performed with many of Australia’s finest jazz musicians including Dale Barlow (Art Blakey Jazz Messengers), David Panichi (Buddy Rich Big band), Errol Buddle (Elvin Jones, Tommy Flanagan) and Matt McMahon (Bobby Previte, Vince Jones). He has been fortunate to perform on numerous occasions at the Sydney Opera House as well as at various international jazz festivals.

Famous for the world’s longest running residency (at the Unity Hall Hotel in Balmain), the Unity Jazz Band has featured a roll call of Sydney’s best jazz musicians for more than 50 years. With jazz players both old and young it has a wonderful combination of history mixed with young energy and talent.

The $35 ticket price ($30 for SH Jazz members*, $20 for student/child) plus booking fee is for event entry only, with reserved table seating.

Food and drink is available to order at the venue. If you have any special song requests or seating preferences, please let us know when you book! Doors open from 1:00pm with the band playing from 2-5pm.

The Bowlo’s kitchen will be serving lunch from 12 noon, and you are very welcome to come early and eat in the main room before the show. Our doors will open at 1:00pm and the band will start at 2:00pm, playing through until 5:00pm. Lunch orders will continue until 2:30pm, with a snack menu and drinks (including tea and coffee) available through the remainder of the afternoon.
