A departure from Megan’s previous work, ‘The Carriers of Light’ exhibition is an experimentation using different materials and processes, including poetry, that inform one another.
Collaborating with females from her community, Megan’s starting point was to create two videos that push the boundaries of our world experiences. Playing with historical references, memory, time, sound and colour to evoke a metaphysical plane of existence.
In direct response to the videos are numerous ceramic sculptural forms. Working with her hands in a tactile, sensory way reminded her of time slowing down, as in the videos. Stepping back from the literal, the formation of shapes speaks of ancient forests and ritualistic sites of nature-society relations, enabling us to perceive three-dimensionality.
Predominantly a painter, Megan is concerned with the interactions between line, colour and form, pushing figuration into abstraction and dark into light. Seeking ‘the other’, the veiled, the luminous and the shadowed, Megan has worked more intuitively to bring a body of work that reveal traces of humanity and our connection to the earth.
