Featuring acclaimed poets Noelia Ramon, Dmitra Harvey & Mark Tredinnick, and new music—settings of poems from Mark’s brand-new book A Beginner’s Guide—from “Teddychook” (Russell Tredinnick & the Tred Family Singers)

As part of the program of events celebrating this year’s Blue Square Art Prize and exhibition at the BDAS Gallery, Arthead presents “A Beginner’s Guide,” an evening of the poetry from some of Australia’s leading poets, accompanied by brand new music from Teddychook.

Mark Tredinnick is, of course, a Bowral local and an esteemed Australian poet and essayist, awarded an OAM for services to literature and education in 2020. He will read poems from his brand-new collection A Beginner’s Guide. Mark’s brother Russell has set many of the poems from this Mark’s fifth collection, and a number from Mark’s earlier book A Gathered Distance (2020); Russell’s band, Teddychook, will debut those beautiful songs at the event.

Noelia Ramon is a translator, poet, international news journalist, photographer and filmmaker. She spent the first half of her life in her native Spain. Since settling in Sydney in 2018, Noelia has dedicated herself to poetry, and she’s at work on a mixed media book—a lyric documentary account of the inner life of a city. Dmitra Harvey is the author of A Fistful of Hail (Vagabond, 2018). Born to Greek mother in Sydney, Dmitra grew up on Wangal Country. Her work is widely published in the journals and anthologies—Mascara, Cordite, and The Best Australian Poems. Her poem “Cicadas” won the Val Vallis Poetry Award in 2021. Russell Tredinnick is a composer, singer and singer. A musical, Bakery Hill, he cowrote with his son James was performed to wide acclaim in 2021 at the Bryan Brown Theatre.
