10 a.m. - 4.00 p.m.
Pop Up Gallery 2 - Milk Factory Gallery 33 Station Street, Bowral
E. shirley@milkfactorygallery.com.au

A Vibrant Perspective – A collection of recent works by Aidan Weichard, an alternate view on native flora and fauna of Australia. With bold colour palettes, exaggerated brush strokes and varied mediums, Aidan paints things close to home.
My work is influenced by Australian flora and fauna as well as our stunning landscapes. The working class animals of Australia are what I am drawn to time and time again, livestock and working dogs that shaped our nation are represented in many of my paintings. My own animals who I adore are a constant influence and reason why so many of my works depict animals.
I am inspired by artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Adam Cullen, John Giese, Jessica Watts and Anthony Lister to name a few.

Sturt Gallery & Studios, Cnr Range Rd & Waverley Pde, Mittagong
E. shop@sturt.nsw.edu.au

The natural landscape of the Southern Highlands inspires a stunning new exhibition of ceramic vessels by international artist in residence, Rachel Wood.

In awe and overwhelmed by the Australian bush on her first residency at Sturt Craft Centre in 2013, English ceramicist, Rachel Wood, has returned to Sturt this year to make new work on site specially for her solo exhibition, Sentient, to be presented in Sturt’s own gallery.

Rachel Wood is known for her expressive, visceral, calm and considered vessels, each brought to life with lively and complex surfaces. The unique personal touch of human spirit and physicality of the core material are key to Rachel's practical and intellectual ethos. Every fingerprint, tool mark, rip and join, trace the journey of her making with clay, just as every footstep in the Australian bush of the Southern Highlands infuses the images and feelings in her head and heart.

Anthony Springford is a Bowral-based artist with a practice that has includes painting, drawing, printmaking and writing. He is also the owner of Black Parrot Art Room in Mittagong, NSW. Anthony’s life and art is shaped by his fascination with the history of visual culture, and of intimate, domestic and bodily life. He is drawn to the texture and viscosity of old images or déclassé luxuries from the recycling bin of taste, and his paintings are like an uncool form of ‘remix culture’

Berrima
E. info@appighosthunts.com

INTERACTIVE GHOST TOUR OF BERRIMA COURTHOUSE…

The Berrima Courthouse Interactive Ghost Tour covers the history and past criminals who have walked through the ornate doors of this wonderful building in more detail – but that’s just a fraction of what you can expect.

During the years we have been conducting paranormal investigations there, we have had doppelganger activity, people feel overcome by spirit, and witnessed full bodied apparitions.

Is it any wonder the building is so active, when you look at the history of the Courthouse. Not only has it been a courthouse, where people were condemned to death, executed at the prison next door – it's also been a prisoner of war camp, and has held many other functions throughout the years.

This experience is not for the faint-hearted. Join us, and bring your sense of adventure with you!

Feta Yoghurt and Fromage Frais

Saturday 19th of October
10am-4pm
95 Clemens Road, Woodlands, 2575
E. lucynias@hotmail.com

This 6hr hands-on workshop takes you through the steps of making one of the most delicious and versatile Greek cheeses. The distinctive sharp flavour of the cheese is achieved by adding an enzyme from the gut of goat or sheep to the cow’s milk, and although this cheese can be eaten straight away by the impatient, the complexity of it’s flavour develops slowly over a few months and becomes sophisticated and aromatic. It is a deceptively modest and simple cheese, and mastering this recipe will change your view of cooking with cheese forever.

The class takes place in the kitchen of our beautiful permaculture farm set amongst the rolling hills of the Southern Highlands. All equipment, ingredients and a yummy home-grown, home-made lunch provided, but bring along an Esky or large waterproof box to take home your cheeses. Bookings essential.

ANNE of GREEN GABLES stage musical presented by The Highlands Theatre Group

Friday 25 October - Saturday 9 November
7:30pm evening and 2pm matinee performances.
114-116 Main St. Mittagong
E. secretary@htg.org.au

Based on the original book by Lucy Maud Montgomery and first published in 1908, this classic tale has been masterfully adapted for the stage, featuring beautiful, new music and inspiring choreography. Under the experienced direction of Rebecca Howarth, 'Anne of Green Gables' is a heart warming family show for young and old.
Set in the fictional village of Avonlea on Canada's Prince Edward Island, the story traces the lives of aging siblings Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, when they are mistakenly sent flame- haired, feisty Anne Shirley from the orphanage, instead of the boy they'd hoped to adopt. Anne's boundless energy and her constant misadventures turn their quiet world upside down, as they learn to love her as if they'd each had a child of their own.
'Anne of Green Gables' is a delightful exploration of family loyalty and devotion to home, to be enjoyed by all.

It is directed by Allan Beavis. This dramatic work chronicles the work of the Old Testament Prophet Elijah: his confrontation with King Ahab and the prophets of the god Baal following a three year drought; Queen Jezabel's attempt to have him killed; Elijah's vision of God in the desert; his return to prophetic ministry; and his being taken directly to heaven.

BLANK

Thursday 31 October - Saturday 2 November
8pm
The Round Yard, Retford Park, Bowral
E. clare@cmsproductions.com.au

BLANK is a new work from Nassim Soleimanpour, who is known for his plays without directors, sets or rehearsals. Much like the internationally acclaimed WHITE RABBIT RED RABBIT this new piece invites critical reflection on our identity is constructed around the stories we tell. Simultaneously it celebrates the communal and elusive nature of theatre, as the audience members shout, laugh, gasp and collaborate to write the evening's story, a story that is irrevocably theirs and will never be told in the same way again.
CMS Productions is delighted to be presenting this work at Retford Park, by courtesy of The National Trust of Australia.

Ssh! It’s on again! Jane Wray returns to Bowral District Art Society with ‘Whisperings’, her latest collection of works. Following a very successful exhibition in 2017, Jane is again bringing her alluring, contemporary realistic works to the Southern Highlands.
Focussing on the built environment, particularly cityscapes, Jane also celebrates a more encompassing landscape and still life range in the new pieces.
Wendy Sharpe has described Jane’s work as, "sensitive, skilful work at once soft and dramatic". The simplicity of Jane’s chosen images is a base from which she adds beauty, delicacy and intricacy. There is also a strong focus on light to develop the atmospherics of this collection.
Jane is a multi-award winning pastellist and an exhibiting member of The Royal Art Society of NSW.
Exhibition is open daily 10am-4pm from October 31 – November 5. Opening night is Friday, 1st November at 6.30pm. Catered by Eschalot Restaurant, Berrima.

Stephen Lowe - Flightless Lights

I create light sculptures using Ostrich and Emu eggs. I source recycled objects from the past and transform them into assemblage forms that are compelling in the present.

Through the egg, light is filtered and can be directed, distorted, reflected and shaped as part of the sculptural composition. Form is integrated with the exploration of light.

My lamps enhance a layered lighting design and offer a ‘focal glow’, an ‘ambient luminescence’ or a ‘play of brilliance’ if desired. I enjoy how light can consolidate a space or isolate an area to establish or change the mood.

James Fairfax AC has always believed that Retford Park should be preserved for the enjoyment and benefit of future generations, particularly those of the local district.
