We are delighted to announce the next—and much-anticipated—exhibition from Sydney-based artist Miranda Joy Summers, marking her return to the Southern Highlands, where she made her acclaimed Michael Reid debut with ‘The Sound of Phthalo’ in 2025
‘Threshold’ sees Summers following her most enduring muse—Middle Harbour, Sydney—and all its striking, sparkling beauty: a landscape defined by moored boats bobbing on calm waters; by the dense bushland that clings to the harbour’s edge, shooting up from rockfaces in deep green thickets; and, in between it all, homes craning their necks above the trees.
Committing these impressions to canvas with luscious, heaped and trowelled strokes of oil paint, Summers’ studio is a place of deep focus, trial and labour. It is here that these scenes are patiently worked and skilfully resolved, each carrying a remarkable sense of tactility and physical presence.
Summers’ latest collection, ‘Rock Tree Flow’, exhibited earlier this year at Michael Reid Northern Beaches, was placed in it’s entirety upon opening, and marked another significant step in the painter’s rising profile within contemporary Australian landscape painting.
