It’s time to explore this historic town, the northern gateway to the Highlands and home to Australia’s first iron works. It is an excellent example of a country town which has managed to retain its historic beginnings, with old and new, side by side. The MUST SEE is Lake Alexandra and its resident ducks.
Surrounding towns and villages include Alpine, Aylmerton, Balaclava, Braemar, Colo Vale, High Range, Welby, Yanderra and Yerrinbool.
An easy walk through the old streets and laneways of Mittagong will showcase numerous historic sandstone cottages from the late 1800s. Pioneer Street is a great starting point.
