We offer bespoke visitor experiences including house and garden tours with experienced guides who unlock the secrets of this remarkable elegant Victorian Italianate home. Built in 1887 by the Hordern family and lavishly redesigned by James Fairfax, AC in the 1960s, Retford Park is a place of great heritage significance located in the heart of Bowral, Gundungurra Country. Mr Fairfax was a well-known champion of the arts and generous philanthropist. The exquisite house interior includes original artworks, a fine collection of English furniture dating from the 16th century and lush soft furnishings from the renowned Lesley Walford. The gardens burst with brilliant seasonal colour in autumn and spring. In the summer months, huge oaks trees provide a shady canopy for a picnic and in the colder months the ‘winter walk’ comes to life with fragrant daphne, delicate snowdrops, witch hazel and honeysuckle. Scattered throughout the grounds is an impressive collection of sculptures by noted Australian artists. Situated on 80 stunning acres in the beautiful Southern Highlands, Retford Park is a 90 minute drive south of Sydney with easy access to free onsite parking for cars and coaches.
