The Southern Highlands Symphony Orchestra (SHSO) was formed in 2014 as a result of overwhelming interest in establishing a symphony orchestra in the region. The founding Artistic Director and Conductor is Dr Allan Stiles.
Our mission is to perform classical music at a high standard and to make these performances a vehicle for the involvement of musicians of all ages and the enjoyment and cultural enrichment of the Southern Highlands community into the future.
The SHSO is made up of over 50 musicians from the Highlands and surrounding districts and includes professional musicians, semi-professional musicians as well as other highly qualified musicians who cover a range of professions including: Law, medicine, IT, media, teaching and publishing. Music students are invited to attend rehearsals.
The orchestral has now become a significant feature of the educational and cultural life in the Southern Highlands.
The orchestra has performed many premiere performances by Australian composers, and has included soloists from the region, overseas and nationally.
