Music lovers are in for a treat this autumn as the Serendipity choir prepares to weave a vibrant musical landscape in their upcoming concert series, “A Tapestry of Song.” Scheduled for this May, the performance promises an eclectic journey through time and genre, proving that the human voice remains one of the most versatile instruments in existence.
The program is a carefully curated blend of the classic and the contemporary. Audiences can expect to hear everything from the spirited energy of the Renaissance to the smooth, sophisticated harmonies of the Swing era. The “tapestry” comes to life as the choir moves seamlessly between soulful anthems, beloved Australian melodies, and high-octane Broadway-style arrangements. Whether it is the soaring emotional heights of modern choral classics or the playful wit of traditional madrigals, the repertoire has been chosen to celebrate the sheer joy of choral singing.
Adding a special spark to this season’s performances is our talented guest artist, Lucy de Hosson. A 2024 graduate of the Newtown High School of the Performing Arts, she is now in her second year of a Bachelor of Performance (Music Theatre) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Despite her youth, she brings an impressive professional pedigree to the stage. Audiences may recognize her from her turn as Marcy in the professional production of School of Rock the Musical at the Capitol Theatre. Her versatility has seen her tackle iconic roles ranging from the formidable Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd to the comedic heights of Spamalot.
For these May concerts, she will be stepping out of the theatrical character mask to perform alongside the choir. From the brassy defiance of don’t Rain on my Parade to the ethereal beauty of Schubert, her selections are designed to complement the choir’s rich textures.
