James King graduated from University of Wollongong with a Masters in Fine Arts, and has exhibited locally, nationally and overseas. Having completed a residency in Ramatuelle, in Southern France, James now lives in Mittagong, and is one of The SHAC’s resident artists, as well as being part of the management team, contributing enormously to the artistic direction of this artists and artisans hub.
Of ‘Assembly Required’, James states, “Painting images from the past and bringing to life new narratives, I seek to understand my own experience growing up in a fractured family dynamic. Keeping a family, or a group of people together requires work. But as I have discovered, it’s an emotional cost that has proven to be difficult throughout my lifetime. Too often, conflicting personalities have ruptured any hope of harmoney and in our efforts to appease, there are consequences.”
