Do you have a dog who loves to run ? Dry land sledding could be the sport for you.
NSW Siberian Express will be holding our introduction to sledding on Saturday the 4th March at Belanglo state forest starting at 10.30 am until 1.30 pm.
What is introduction to sledding?
The committee bring all of our equipment our kick bikes, harnesses, gang lines for you to try sledding with your dog/s, all you need to bring is your dog/s, a lead, a bike helmet, water for you and your dogs as there is no water on site and some inclosed shoes.
There are a few didn’t disciplines that you can try, for 1 or 2 dog teams we have scooters, there is also a class called bikejoring, this discipline is very similar to the scooter class but using a push bike instead of a scooter and lastly there is a canicross class, this is for the fit people, you wear a custom made canicross belt and you attach your dogs gangline to a clip at the front of the belt and you run behind your dog.
We have classes for every member of the family, we have a Pee Wee class for kids under 9 years of age, Junior class for kids over 10 and over we have a novice class for new comers to the sport, we have veteran class for dogs 8 years and over, we also have open classes for 1 dog, 2 dog, 3 dog, 4 dog and 6 dog.
What breed of dogs can compete ?
When you think of sledding the breeds that come to mind first are Siberian huskies, Alaskan Malamutes or Samoyeds. You will be surprised how many different breeds we have at our events, including the dogs already listed above, we have staffie’s , GSPS, Labradors, border collies, kelpies, German Shepherd’s, Dalmatian’s, Akita’s, Coolies, Aussie shepherds and many more. A general rule is, any medium to large breed capable of pulling can be involved in dry land sledding.
We will have yellow NSW Siberian Express sled dog signs from the freeway to follow into Belanglo please follow only these signs as we only have access to a small area of the forest.
Spectators are welcome to attend our events, we only ask if you are bringing your dog please have them on a lead at all times, and to keep clear of the area where the dogs are running, this is a must for everyone’s safety.
