Head to Kangaroo Valley for a unique visual experience
over two big weekends in September
Sculpture in the Valley makes its return to the South Coast over two weekends in September. This year, the garden of Wilburra Estate, in Barrengarry, Kangaroo Valley will transform into an open canvas, showcasing over a hundred works from sculptors across the country. Sculpture in the Valley will be open on the 9th & 10th September and again the following weekend 16th & 17th September.
Situated close to the heart of Kangaroo Valley, Wilburra Estate offers a unique exhibition location with a panoramic view that will merge nature and art. Throughout the estate gardens will be an extensive outdoor exhibition and an indoor gallery. Coffee and light refreshments will also be available.
The exhibition and sales office officially open Saturday 9th September at 11am where our special guest Peter Garrett and judges Janet Laurence and Michael Snape will present over $38,000 in cash prizes to the winners. Everyone has a chance to win a cash prize of $500 by snapping a photo at the exhibition and sharing it with us online. You can even help award the $5,000 People’s Choice Awards by voting for your favourite sculpture.
Previous winner and curator of Sculpture in the Valley is the accomplished Southern Highlands artist David Ball. In 2017 David was the winner of Sculpture by the Sea, and this year in Kangaroo Valley he will share his insights on sculpture and the exhibition through guided tours. Additionally, people can engage directly with artists, delving deeper into the stories and inspirations behind their creations at artists’ talks throughout the exhibition.
“Sculpture has become one of the artistic phenomena of our age,” says Nick Minogue from Sculpture in the Valley. “Sculpture by the Sea has been joined by several other sculpture shows in Sydney alone. Sculpture in the Valley has been held every two years since 2007 in a series of Kangaroo Valley private gardens. Covid undid 2021’s event, and the deferred event was then rained out in 2022. Now we are back and hoping to surpass our past achievements and offer a garden of sculptural delights for all!”
For those planning their visit, the exhibition opens its doors from 10 am to 4 pm on both weekends, with a note that the exhibition will close earlier at 2 pm on September 17th. Entry tickets are $10 each and children under 18 have free entry all weekend. The address is Wilburra Estate 32, Smarts Road, Barrengarry, Kangaroo Valley.
