The annual Thirlmere Festival of Steam returns to the NSW Rail Museum in May!

Get ready for a two-day extravaganza as the streets of Thirlmere come alive with the magic of steam on 18-19 May. Enjoy steam train rides with a superstar line-up of locomotives, traction engines, vintage car show, the annual parade and live entertainment. And, this year sees the addition fireworks, a bigger carnival, and more!

STEAM TRAIN RIDES

Enjoy a leisurely ride on the Loop Line from Thirlmere to Picton or Buxton and return, with heritage trains operating all weekend!

See and experience arts, entertainment and engineering of the past throughout the NSW Rail Museum:

• Climb into the driver’s cab of steam Locomotive 3526.
• Watch live demonstrations of historic trades.
• See a 104-year-old coal grab crane in action.
• Enjoy mini train rides.
• Catch the fascinating display of vintage agricultural and industrial steam machinery.

Thirlmere comes to life on Sunday with market stalls and street parade, plus live performances, carnival rides and a vintage car display

GET YOUR RUNNING SHOES ON ….. The Huff N’ Puff race against the steam train is back!

Returning in 2024, the iconic Huff ‘N Puff Run is back again to challenge competitors racing against an historic steam engine. This year the Huff ‘N Puff Run, brought to you by Simec – Tahmoor Coking Coal, it will offer two run options with a 6km run from Buxton Station to Thirlmere Station, and a 5km family fun run from Couridjah Station to Thirlmere Station. The Huff ‘N Puff Run will take place on the morning of Sunday 26 May and will be the conclusion to the 2024 Festival of Steam.

Offering a unique run experience, the Huff N’ Puff will offer competitors and spectators an exclusive Steam Train ride from Thirlmere station to Couridjah Station for the Family Fun Run & Buxton station for the competitive Race where competitors will disembark to commence their return race against the Steam Train.

6km Run Includes: Huff N’ Puff Race Entry, Race Bib, Timing Chip, Medallion, Train Ride & Museum Entry

5km Family Fun Run includes: Race Entry, Train Ride & Museum Entry, Race Bib and Drink Bottle (adults), Ribbon (child 16 under)

Winners of Competitive Race:

• 1st Place Male & Female Adult: $250 / 2nd Place Male & Female: $150
• 1st Place Male & Female Child: $100 each
